My Main Man

Jay and I have the perfect marriage. Don't you?  O.K., neither of us is perfect, and neither is our marriage. But after seven years we're getting the hang of this whole thing. It helps to give him props for being pretty great.

My husband works all...the...time. I'm incredibly thankful the he has a job, but most days (and some nights) I'm on my own.  Here's where the pretty great comes in.  When he is home, he's fully present, and spends his whole time with Jack.  If friends invite him out "to watch the game"...he takes Jack.  If he wants to go running...Jack rides his bike.  Just look how cute they are!

I preface this post with how great my main man is, because at times he can put his foot in his mouth.  And I just couldn't let this newborn season pass without recording them.

We had spent the night at the hospital, and by the next day, Jay was bored.  Yep, bored.  I'm in labor, and Jay is bored.  He said, "last time, it was just so much easier."  Really?  Was it easier pushing for almost two hours to give birth to an 8 lb. baby, facing up?  My mom and I couldn't believe he said that, and all three of us burst out laughing.  He also had canker sores, and was complaining about how badly they hurt.  See the humor?  ;-)

I have had trouble producing enough milk with both babies.  This time I was pumping for 20 minutes every two hours, for two weeks, in hopes of increasing my milk supply. (If you have ever done this, you understand the pain.) I was sitting upstairs pumping, when Jay walked in to tell me that his nipples hurt!  He thought they were chapped from the cold.  I had to ask him if he was being serious.  We had a pretty good laugh about that one, and he said I could probably write a book with his comments.

Jay took a few days off after Holden was born, and then did a modified schedule for the rest of the week.  He was the homemaker for that week, and was so exhausted from all of the constant work that he was happy to go back to the office. He said, and I quote, "I don't know how you do it."  I love him for that.

  2. I love hearing men's stories of their labor experience. I used to work with a woman whose husband showed up to the delivery room after just eating an onion sandwich. I can only imagine what Joe might do/say...I am going to make sure he brings mints!
