Do you see the potential in a not-so-great home? I have been looking at so many houses online, and some are quite scary. But you can't judge a book by it's cover! Back in 2004 when we bought this house, I knew it was "ours" from the moment I walked in. You just get that feeling. But I also knew I would want to make a few changes. I'm certain that I ripped down the polyester drapes from the living room the day we moved in! Here is a taste of what the house looked like when we had our final walk-through with the previous owners belongings, and what it looks like now.

I like how you took down all of the "blusher" valances (as I like to call them). It adds visual height. Also, the eat-in kitchen -- what did you do for lighting in there? I see that the drop down light is gone. Is it a flush mount or did you ixnay it altogether?
ReplyDeleteYes, we took down all the valances and added faux-wood blinds. We did replace that hanging light with a flush mount. It was too small of a space and that light fixture took up the whole nook.
ReplyDeleteAriel just said..."wow mom, she is amazing"!! =) I love how you can see the potential of what could be instead of taking everything at face value. My favorite change...and this is going to seem sooo silly in the grand scheme of things.....but the removal of the darn sink skirt in the powder room!! BRAVO!!
ReplyDeleteAbby I had to come over and check out your blog! Amazing! And I love the title and picture, as I have three boys myself.
ReplyDeleteI married a man with a penchant for home remodeling---and it's become contagious. I love what you've done! These pictures are great! You are so talented!

You. are. amazing. I just don't have that kind of natural talent.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, you did such a beautiful job! Your home should be thanking you for bringing it into this century, and with style.
ReplyDeleteI think the kitchen and the nursery are my faves, but it's hard to say.
Seriously girls, I am so humbled by your comments. Thanks for the encouragement! I'm hoping to take a class at the Design school in the fall, and get a little education under my belt.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have done some amazing things with your home. I love the bookshelves so much better.
