Sophia's mom is truly the "hostess with the mostess". We've been to three parties at their house, and they are always so creative. There is never a lull--which is smart for a party full of kids. As soon as you walk in you're given a warm welcome, and there is something for the kids to do. They got to decorate their tiera or prince crown, and their own special bag.
So far, Jack does not show his mother's flare for decorating.
The theme was "The Little Mermaid" and there was a huge spread of light food: watermelon pieces cut into sea horses, Colby Jack cheese slices cut into goldfish, tons of fresh shrimp, and a very special Arial birthday cake. Did you notice the real fish swiming in the middle of the table? They took their decorated bags to the basement to look for a treasure chest, and fill their bags with treasure, and candy from a pinata. She even had special party favors for the two boys at the party. Jack was thrilled to go home with a new Spiderman book!
I'm not used to girly parties, and besides the obvious princess dresses, I thought it was interesting that there was almost always some little girl in tears. That's one thing that does not happen at a party full of boys!
This "hostess with the mostess" inspired me to put more effort into making all get-togethers special, whether it is for the kids or our friends.
What's the most creative idea you have done yourself or experienced at a birthday party?
